The wax is significant because it allows us to make a mold of it, that we can pour in metal. The wax is shaped and then used to form a mold for the metal. And when we pour the metal into this mold and let it cool, we will attain a solid metal piece that will appear like our original wax mold we made earlier.

It all starts with the wax mold, which is crucial to creating the final metal product. We take some wax, we melt it down to make the wax mold. After that, we shape it into the desired form. After we have our wax mold set up we need to coat it with a hard ceramic shell. This shell is very vital, as it helps retain the shape of the mold, when we pour hot metal into it. This shell is formed by dipping the wax mold several times in a special liquid called ceramic slurry. We allowed the mold to dry after each dip. This process should be repeated many times until the shell is thick enough to withstand the heat of the metal when we cast in it. It’s not a process that yields quick results.
After forming the thick ceramic shell, we will heat the wax mold subsequently until the wax completely melts out. And voila, you have a hollow ceramic mold that is ready for the next step! We put this mold in a super-hot oven until it is smoking hot. When it gets hot enough, we pour the hot metal into the mold. It makes its way into the empty space within the mold and forms around the original wax shape. We join forces with fabrics, furlough our creative visions, and begin to see our final product come to fruition in this magical place!
