Lost-wax casting: An ancient technique that creates metal art and industrial precision components

Time: 2025-08-08

Lost-wax casting is an ancient metal casting technique, renowned for its fine details and complex designs.

This technology not only enables the creation of exquisite artworks but is also widely applied in the industrial field to produce various precise metal components.

The process of lost-wax casting begins with making a model. According to the drawing requirements, open the wax part mold, inject the wax raw material, let it cool and solidify in the mold, and then take it out.

Workers will make detailed adjustments to this wax model to ensure that every detail is free of burrs and surface defects.

Next, the model is covered with a layer of refractory material to form a solid shell.

After the shell dries, melt the wax inside and let it flow out, leaving a cavity that is exactly the same shape as the original model.

Then, the molten metal liquid is poured into this cavity, which is what we commonly call pouring.

After the metal cools and solidifies, the shell is broken and the metal casting is removed.

Finally, the casting is ground and polished to remove any remaining casting marks, making it a smooth and perfect finished product.

Lost-wax casting is highly regarded because it can capture every detail of the model, even the tiniest textures and decorations. This technique is not only applicable to small decorative items, but also to large sculptures and complex mechanical components. Through lost-wax casting, metals are endowed with new life and become a testament to human wisdom and creativity.
